According to Malaysian paper The Lead (via The Closure), Ashcan School people in Miri, Malaysia were charged for allegedly stealing electrical energy to power a massive bitcoin excavation operation involving 1,069 PCs. Malaysia has recently started cracking down on countrywide electrical energy theft victimised for illegitimate bitcoin mining operations.
The PCs were confiscated during six raids on properties near an airport in the Sarawak region. The raids were conducted in a juncture operation between Malaysian authorities and Sarawak Vim Berhad (SEB). These suspects allegedly saved a way to siphon electricity from SEB power lines to power the bitcoin mining machines, stealing almost $2 million Charles Frederick Worth of electricity over three months.
